Valentine's Day Gift Card Tags: Add a Personalized Touch to Your Gifts
Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate love and show appreciation for the special people in our lives. One thoughtful way to make your gifts stand out is by creating personalized gift card tags. In this blog post, we'll guide you through the process of making charming DIY Valentine's Day gift card tags that will transform your gift-giving experience.
Introducing the Valentine Gift Card Tag Craft Kit
The Valentine Gift Card Tag Wood Cutouts from Janet's Craft Corner are the perfect starting point for your DIY project. This set includes two wooden tags, each with a unique design and shape, along with a heart stencil to add a special touch.
Gather Your Supplies
To create these Valentine's Day gift card tags, you'll need the following supplies:
- Valentine Gift Card Tag Wood Cutouts
- FolkArt Multi-Surface Paints in colors like Titanium White, Apple Red, Conch Shell, Soft Apple, Light Lavender, and Ocean View
- Art Institute Precision Craft Glue
- Twine or ribbon of your choice
- Sponges or brushes for painting
- Scissors, a stylus, and sandpaper (optional)
Painting the Wooden Tags
Begin by separating the wooden pieces by color they will be paid. For this project, we'll be using a combination of red, light blue, light pink, white, mint green, and lavender.
Start with the red tags. Apply a thick coat of paint, then use a sponge to dab and spread the paint evenly across the surface. Remember to work from the inside to the outside, avoiding any drips or excess paint on the edges.

Next, move on to the light blue, light pink, and white tags. Repeat the sponge painting technique, being mindful to offload the paint on your palette before applying it to the tags. This will help prevent the paint from seeping into the engraved details.
For the mint green and lavender tags, continue the sponge painting process, keeping the paint application light and even. The key is to use just the right amount of paint to achieve full coverage without compromising the engraved details.
Incorporating Scrapbooking Techniques
To add an extra layer of personalization, we'll be incorporating a scrapbooking technique on one of the tags. Start by tracing the outline of the tag onto a piece of scrapbooking paper, making sure to include the central hole. Cut the paper slightly outside the traced line, then use a sanding block to gently rough up the edges for a more rustic look.
Next, apply a generous layer of Mod Podge to the front of the tag.

Carefully place the scrapbooking paper on top, aligning it as best as possible. Avoid excessive sliding, as this can cause wrinkles in the paper.

Allow the Mod to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Stenciling the Tags
For the second tag, we'll be using a stencil to add a playful touch. The Valentine Gift Card Tag Wood Cutouts set includes a heart-shaped stencil that you can use to create a pattern across the tag.
Position the stencil on the tag, angling it as desired. If possible, secure the edges with tape to prevent the stencil from shifting during the painting process. Using a sponge and white paint, dab the paint through the stencil, being careful to offload excess paint to avoid bleeding under the edges.

Once you've completed the stenciling, gently remove the stencil and admire your handiwork. The key to achieving clean, crisp stencil lines is to use a light touch and offload the paint as much as possible.
Assembling the Gift Card Tags
Now that the painting and decorative elements are complete, it's time to assemble the gift card tags.
Start by using a stylus or X-Acto knife to punch a hole through the center of the tags, if you haven't already done so. This will allow you to thread a ribbon or twine through the tag later.
Apply a small amount of glue to each of the pieces as you position them. Position the red, light blue, light pink, or white painted wooden tags on top, pressing them gently to secure.

Finally, add a small amount of glue to the back of the tag, near the bottom, and attach the gift card holder piece. This will create a pocket for you to slide the gift card into, making it a complete and thoughtful presentation.

Personalize Your Gift Card Tags
The beauty of these DIY Valentine's Day gift card tags is that you can personalize them to suit your recipient's style and preferences. Feel free to experiment with different color combinations, stencil patterns, or even add your own handwritten messages.
If you'd like to take your tags to the next level, consider adding a ribbon or twine through the hole at the top. This will allow your recipient to hang the tag on their tree, mantel, or anywhere they'd like to display it.
