Faux Gingerbread Cookie Garland

This faux gingerbread garland makes a great addition to your gingerbread decorations.

The garland uses gingerbread man wood cutouts plus several other designs and ribbon. This works as a gingerbread tree garland or a gingerbread Christmas garland on the mantle.

My garland included gingerbread person cut outs, a star, Christmas tree, candy cane and bell but the options are unlimited. You can do the gingerbread garland in neutrals like I did or use whatever colors you want in the ribbons behind the cutouts.

Supplies for Your Gingerbread Garland

Wood Cutouts – You can usually find these at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, or anywhere else that you get craft supplies.

Acrylic Paint in tans & browns to mix for gingerbread color

Metallic Pearl Acrylic Paint for “icing”

8-10 types of ribbon or lace

Twine

Foam Brush

Instructions for Gingerbread Garland

Step 1 – Paint Wood Cutouts

Mix paint to get a gingerbread color. We used Cocoa with a little bit of Burnt Umber to get the gingerbread color. Paint the backs of the cutouts and let them dry. Then, paint the fronts of the cutouts leaving the paint a little bit thick. Dab the foam brush around in the paint to create the texture of the cookie. Let paint dry completely.

Step 2 – Decorate Your Cookies

Take the lid off the Metallic Pearl Acrylic Paint and replace it with a writing tip. Using the bottle with the writing tip, apply the paint to the front of the cutouts in the same manner you would apply icing to gingerbread cookies. Let “icing” paint dry completely.

Step 3 – Make the Ribbon Backdrop for Your Garland

Cut 8-10 different coordinating ribbons or laces in approximately 8” strips. I used 8 strips of 8 different ribbons for my garland. You can choose any type of ribbon you want to match the décor where you plan on hanging your garland.

Cut a length of twine a couple of feet longer than you want your garland to be. Make a loop at one end of the twine and tie a knot. Knot the ribbons around the twine in alternating patterns. Once you have knotted all of your ribbons around the twine, or you’ve reached the length you want, create another loop and tie a knot in it.

Step 4 – Add Cookies to Garland

Lay your garland out on a table and space your cookies out the way you want them. Thread a piece of twine through the hole at the top of each cookie and tie it around the main twine of the garland knotting it tightly. Trim the ends of the piece of twine that is attaching the cookie.

Display Your Gingerbread Garland and Enjoy!

Wasn’t that easy. Now all you have to do is put it on display in your house and enjoy all of the complements.
